Every day you are on the internet – you ‘like’, share, shop and search. You may think your online habits are just that, yours, but data collectors are looking over your shoulder. These sites use your information against you: to change airline ticket prices, clothing prices, even friend information and news sources. They generate billions of dollars annually by stalking you and sharing your information with others you may not know or trust. This information not only tells them where you visited on the internet, but also give them a good idea who you are. Your privacy belongs to you. You should have control of your personal information and privacy.
Your browser with the Do Not Track setting on requests websites not to track you but it is entirely up to the website to honor and accept that request. Most websites including major ones like Yahoo do not honor the Do Not Track request.
PrivatizeMe Anti-Tracking is an application that works with your browsers to maintain your privacy as you travel through the internet. By placing cookies on your browser and fingerprinting your computer, unknown parties can track where you go and what you do. The PrivatizeMe Anti-Tracking application removes unwanted cookies and periodically changes the fingerprint of your computer, giving you the appearance of a different visitor to the website.
When you browse the web using the incognito or private mode the browser does not save a record of what sites you visit and deletes your history, but does not prevent revealing WHO you are. Browser also send information to websites revealing many properties and settings of your computer, building your fingerprint. PrivatizeMe Anti-Tracking obscures your computer by periodically changing the fingerprint of your computer.
Spear phishing is a specialized method used by bad actors to aim phishing attacks at specific high value users whose data they are seeking to steal. This type of attack is very effective, as it does not blanket target everybody, but waits until a specific potential victim is identified. The most common means of identifying the target victim is by targeting user profiles that are built by ad servers using tracking cookies, possibly across several website domains. Once the victim has been properly identified, a compromised ad server is commanded to serve an ad containing malware i.e. a malvertisement. While all major legitimate ad servers try to guard against serving malware, even major sites like New York Times, Weather.com, NBC Sports, Yahoo and Double Click have recently unknowingly served malvertisements. Since PrivatizeMe manages and eliminates cookies and trackers, bad actors cannot use your profile (since the ad servers do not have a profile for you) for spear phishing attacks. Note, PrivatizeMe does not protect you from plain phishing and you should use caution when clicking on suspicious looking ads or visiting unknown sites and use anti-phishing protection software.
PrivatizeMe Anti-Tracking is available for both Windows PCs and Mac. The PC version supports Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Edge and Opera browsers. The Mac version supports Chrome, Firefox and Safari browsers.
By default any website that you have not ‘trusted’ is treated as an untrusted site and PrivatizeMe’s anti tracking is always on. No need to worry about a site’s ever changing opt in/opt out policies, selectively changing browser settings etc. – PrivatizeMe takes care of that. You have control – you can designate a site you like and trust as a ‘trusted’ site by simply clicking on the ME button in the browser toolbar – and the cookies associated with that site are not erased and the information will be available to that site when you visit the site the next time – enabling that site to provide you with targeted ads or services. Your browsing experience will not be altered in any way by PrivatizeMe.
Your search history says a lot about you and can be used to profile you. PrivatizeMe provides a privacy protected search service with great results. Your search queries are sent to one of the leading search engines from our site and the query contains no information that could identify about you (except for your general geographic location to make your search results more pertinent). The search results that we display are results that we get from search site. We also present sponsored ads, but unlike other sites, the ads are solely based on your search term and general geographic location data. For example you want to search for an ‘Italian fusion restaurant’ from a desktop connected to the internet in Palo Alto, then the sponsored ads will be based on the term ‘Italian fusion restaurant’ and ‘Palo Alto, CA’. No cookies, previous search history etc. will be shared with the search engine and ad server.
Like most of us, we like ads when they are meaningful and timely. We are not anti-advertising – in fact we recognize that our favorite sites are able to provide content that we read and like because they are funded by these ads. PrivatizeMe technology does not remove any ads from the publisher’s web pages etc. We simply do not let these sites track you (unless the site is your trusted site) and the site will not be able to share your profile data with others.
You have control – you can designate a site you like and trust (Facebook or Google for example) as a ‘trusted’ site by simply clicking on the ME button in the browser toolbar – and the cookies and other information associated with that site are not erased and the information will be available to that site when you visit the site the next time – giving you easy access to the information on that site. Your browsing experience will not be altered in any way by the PrivatizeMe Anti-Tracking.
The PrivatizeMe Anti-Tracking technology is primarily aimed at normal users who do not necessarily want to become “privacy technology experts”. We hope to help them from being tracked and keep their browsing and search private from untrusted sites. All this without the hassle of toggling privacy modes on and off, clearing cookies, etc. and worrying about ever changing opt-in and opt-out rules and proxy sites. Our technology is for those interested in “ethical” privacy and tracking protection and not for users of Tor or those interested in maintaining privacy while being engaged in illegal activity.
